Memories are incredibly important to us. Recollection was started by a husband and wife team, David and Penny Prater. When a computer nerd and a scrapbooker marry, this kind of thing was bound to happen.

David: I have a deep passion for computer science and have studied forensic recovery for decades, since losing photos myself back in 2000. Losing precious photos can hurt deeply. I’ve been a computer programmer since age eight and have a proficient understanding of memory storage and file structure. I’ve written several forensic tools myself to aide in the recovery of your files. I also study photo recovery through Photoshop and a few automated tools. Lately, the rise of Artificial Intelligence has greatly increased the speed at which we can restore photos from low resolution blurs to a printable quality. However, we’ve been doing this since long before AI, and have had to actually redraw parts of damaged photos manually. I attended college at Western Kentucky University, majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Math and Art.

Penny: I absolutely love memories! For years I owned and operated a scrapbook store here in Bowling Green called “Someplace to Remember.” During that time, I taught classes on cropping and other scrapbooking techniques and honed my skills. Lately, we’ve been archiving our memories digitally, which can be equally as fun. Once your memories are restored, I would be happy to show you some helpful ways to organize a large photo collection. We have five children, four of which are now adults. We practice what we preach and spend time restoring the photos of their younger years. We also have three grandchildren, and just can’t stop taking more pictures.
